Interpersonal metafunction is one of three components linguistic study within the Systemic Functional Linguistics framework (SFL). It concerned with how language users express ideas in texts order for their audience to perceive them. In regards political discourse, this aims unravel what PM Theresa May tries deliver her audience. By examining patterns independent clauses BBC speech regarding Brexit referendum, it indicates presence declarative and/or statement sentences. There clearly an exchange pattern between speaker (Theresa May) and targeted listener (British citizen). She planned speech, beginning explanation existing state United Kingdom new elevated position as Prime Minister, a preamble theme referendum. boosting (using finite 'will'), she explored promise far better life British citizens after leaving EU, final portion address, maintained strong demand high modulation 'must') realize goal.
